Su camino es perfecto

“En cuanto a Dios, perfecto es su camino. La palabra del Señor es intachable. Escudo es Dios a los que en Él se refugian” Salmo 18:30

Qué consuelo encontramos en estas palabras. La Palabra de Dios se ha mostrado veráz durante estos dos días en el hospital. Me siento privilegiada y sobrecogida con gratitud y gozo por la provisión que Dios elige darnos hoy. Pero la palabra de Dios se prueba a sí misma verdadera no solo por esta fiel provisión, sino por la promesa de que Él está con nosotros siempre. Hemos sentido su presencia esta semana en cada paso del camino.

Esta mañana le hicieron otra resonancia a Jonathan para determinar si quedó residuo de tumor. Después fue evaluado para determinar pérdidas neurológicas y hasta el momento únicamente parte de su campo de visión izquierdo ha sido afectado, pero existe una fuerte posibilidad de que esto sea temporal. Todavía se siente muy agotado, pero ya está en un cuarto y lentamente se está sintiendo mejor.

Muchas gracias por caminar con nosotros. Agradecemos profundamente sus oraciones y les pedimos que continuen pidiendo por el proceso de recuperación de Jonathan.

His way is perfect.

“This God –His way is perfect, the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.” Psalm 18:30

What a comfort we find in these words. God’s word has really proven true through these two days in the hospital. I am humbled and overwhelmed with gratefulness and joy for the provision He has chosen to give us today. But God’s word proves true not only in his faithful provision, but in his promise that He is with us always. We have sensed His presence this week every step of the way.

This morning Jonathan had a new MRI to help determine if there is any residual tumor. He was also assessed for any loses and so far, part of his left field of vision is the only concern. But there is a strong possibility that this may be temporary. He is still very tired, but he is already in a room and slowly feeling better.

Thank you for walking with us. We really appreciate your prayers. Please keep praying for Jonathan’s recovery process.

Noticias maravillosas: La cirugía ya terminó. Hablé con el Dr. Markert y me dijo que se está muy satisfecho con el resultado de la cirugía. No tendremos información específica de cuánto del tumor pudo sacarse hasta mañana cuando se haga una nueva resonancia magnética. En ese momento estaremos también esperando el reporte de patología que estará listo en unos días.

Jonathan será tranferido muy pronto a la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de Neurología donde pasará la primera etapa de su recuperación. El doctor me dijo que está despierto y hablando. Qué gozo encuentro en esas pequeñas palabras.

Exciting news: Surgery is over. I talked with Dr. Markert and he told me we was pleased with the results of the surgery. We won’t know the specifics of how much of the tumor they were able to remove until tomorrow when he has a new MRI done. At this point, we will also be waiting for the pathology report that will come in a few days.

Jonathan will be transferred soon to the NICU where he will stay for the first stage of his recovery. The doctor said he is already awake and talking. I rejoice so much in those little words.

Acabo de recibir una llamada de los médicos. Se encuentran ya en la segunda etapa de la cirugía en la que están sacando el tumor y piensan que han removido gran parte en este punto. Que la gloria para Dios. Continuen orando para que no haya pérdidas o sean mínimas.

Literalmente me siento “abrazada” por sus oraciones en este momento. No hay palabras para expresar mi gratitud. Que sea Dios quien continue recibiendo la gloria al experiemtar su sostén. Alabamos su nombre con gratitud por Su Verdad en medio de estas circunstancias.

Just received a call from the doctors. They are in the resection stage (the actual removal of the tumor) and they believe they have already got a good amount of tumor. We praise God! Continue to pray for non or very minimal loses.

I literally feel embraced by your prayers today. There are no words no express our gratitude. May He continue to receive all the glory as we experience His sustenance and praise His name for His Truth in the midst of this.

La cirugía empezó a las 10:15 am. Gracias por sus oraciones.

Tuvimos un proceso de admisión muy tranquilo. Jonathan fue preparado y después tuvo una visita muy informativa con el Dr. Moore, el anestesiólogo. Familia y amigos cercanos incluso tuvieron oportunidad de estar con él antes de que lo pasaran a quirófano y en todo el proceso estuvo muy tranquilo y confiado.

Ahora el tiempo de espera ha comenzado. La preparación para cirugía toma más de una hora y el procedimiento en sí tomará alrededor de 6 horas. Durante ese tiempo tendremos informes breves que nos dirán en qué parte del proceso se encuentran. Así que los mantendré informados conforme reciba reportes.

Porfavor continuen orando por el equipo medico. Oren porque Jonathan responda bien a la anestesia y porque no esté ansioso o incómodo durante el tiempo en que lo despierten para hacer el mapeo y evaluar sus habilidades neurológicas.

Surgery started at 10:15 am. Jonathan responded well to medication. Thank you for your prayers.

We had a smooth admitting process this morning. Jon was given his IV and then had an informative talk with Dr. Moore, the anesthesiologist. Close friends and family were able to spend brief moments with him before he was taken to the OR, and through it all he remained very confident and relaxed.

Now, our waiting period has started. Preparation for the surgery takes over an hour and after that the actual procedure will take around 6 hours. Over that period of time they will give a few brief updates just to let us know in general what part of the process they are in. So I will try to keep you posted as I know what’s going on.

Please keep praying for our medical team. Pray that Jonathan won’t be anxious or uncomfortable during the awake time where they will be mapping and assessing his neurological abilities.

Hacia Adelante

Esta mañana tuvimos una buena reunión con nuestro neurcirujano el Dr. Markert. Nos explicó el procedimiento quirúrgico y el proceso de recuperación y también nos dio ánimos al explicar que el tumor está en un lugar accesible y que él considera que podrá quitar una buen porción del mismo. Mañana Karla y yo saldremos a las 5 de la mañana hacia el hospital para internerme y la cirugía iniciará a las 8 de la mañana. Se espera que la cirugía dure varias horas y lo más posible es que no tendremos mucho que informar hasta entrada la tarde o noche. Estamos planeando que este blog sea el medio principal y más rápido para hacerles saber información conforme la vayamos recibiendo. Por esa razón pensamos que sería de beneficio compartirles cómo estamos orando a través de estos momentos e invitarlos a que se nos unan en el camino. Al tiempo que nos acercamos a Dios en oración con confianza pero en humildad queremos comnpartirles no creemos que la oración es una forma de tratar de convencer a Dios para que haga lo que queramos que haga. La oración Bíblica es el medio que Dios usa para que le entreguemos nuestras peticiones y para que ajustemos nuestros deseos y esperanzas a Su plan perfecto para nuestras vidas. Esta jornada con un tumor cerebral no es el camino que nosotros hubiéramos escogido para nuestras vidas, ni tampoco es fácil o cómodo, pero confiamos en que el camino de Dios siempre es el mejor y seremos fieles en continuar caminando en la fortaleza y la presencia que Él provee en nuestras vidas.

Algunas formas específicas de estar orando:

Oren por el equipo médico que estará en la cirugía mañana. Dr. Markert (Neuro-cirujano), Dr. Jennifer (Asistente médico de Neurología), Andrea (enfermera) Christof (residente), el anestesiólogo y otros profesionales médicos que serán parte del procedimiento.

Oren porque el mapeo vaya bien y que los docotores puedan identificar y sacar tanto del tumor como sea posible.

Oren porque Jonathan no tenga pérdidas temporales o permanentes en su visión o sus habilidades motoras o verbales.

Oren porque Dios dé a Karla y a la familia la fortaleza que necesitan mientras esperan un informe.

Oren por una recuperación rápida y completa tanto después de cirugía como en los días que vienen.

Oren porque el reporte de patología confirme que se trata de un tumor de lento crecimiento y no canceroso.

Oren porque todo esto sea una oportunidad para que Dios manifieste su Evangelio y su Gloria.

Confiamos que Dios está sosteniendo nuestra familia y estamos agradecidos por las muchas maneras en que Su iglesia nos has estado apoyando a través se du presencia, su generosidad y sus oraciones.

Stepping Forward

We had a good meeting with Dr. Markert, our neurosurgeon this morning. He explained the surgical procedure and recovery process to us and he also encouraged us by explaining that the tumor is accessible and that he thinks he can get a good part of it removed. Tomorrow morning at 5 am, Karla and I will head to the hospital to be admitted and surgery will start around 8 am. We expect the surgery to last for several hours and we do not expect to have much to update until late afternoon going into early evening. We are planning for this blog to be the primary and quickest means to give you any updates that we may receive. In light of this we thought it may be beneficial to let you know how we are praying through this time and invite you to join us in this journey. As we both humbly and boldly approach God in prayer we want to share that we do not believe that prayer is a means to try and convince God to do what we want him to do. Biblical prayer is God’s means to make our request known to Him and to align our desires and hopes into His perfect plan for our lives. This journey with a brain tumor is not the path we would have chosen for our lives nor is it an easy or comfortable ride, but we trust that God’s way is always best and we will be faithful to walk forward in the strength and presence that He provides in our lives.

Some specific ways to pray tomorrow:

Pray for the medical team that will be involved in tomorrow’s surgery. Dr. Markert (Neurosurgeon), Dr. Jennifer (Neuro- physicians assistant), Andrea (nurse) Christof (resident), the anesthesiologist) and other medical professionals that will be a part of the surgery.

Pray that the mapping will go well and that the doctors will identify and remove as much tumor as they can find.

Pray that that there would be no temporary or permanent losses to Jonathan’s field of vision, motor or verbal skills.

Pray that God will give strength to Karla and family as they walk through the time waiting for news.

Pray for a fast and complete recovery process both after surgery and in the days to come.

Pray that the pathology report would confirm a slow-growing non-cancerous tumor.

Pray that this would be an opportunity for God to display the Gospel and His Glory.

We are confident that God is sustaining our family and we are thankful for the many ways His church has been supporting us through their presence, generosity and prayers.
